The survey showed that the population of Ukraine does not want in NATO

The population of Ukraine does not support the country's entry into NATO, the results of a survey conducted by the All -Ukrainian sociological service testify. Almost no 35% of Ukrainians do not support the entry into NATO, while 11.1% are expressed for participation in the North Atlantic Alliance. The study was held from February 27 to March 8, 2008 in all regions of Ukraine among 2.5 thousand respondents.

The question of participation in NATO causes hot disputes in the country, RIA Novosti recalls. Earlier, the opposition Party of Regions and the Communist Party and the Communist Party blocked the work of the Ukrainian parliament for almost a month with a request to carry out a referendum on the accession of Ukraine to a plan of Action on NATO. President Viktor Yushchenko optimistically evaluates the prospects of the country in terms of rapprochement with the Alliance.

As expected, the question will be raised at the NATO April summit in Bucharest. US President George Bush and his administration previously made it clear that they support the participation of Ukraine and Georgia in terms of preparation for the entry. On April 1, on the eve of the Bush alliance summit, he intends to visit Kiev and meet with President Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko.

Earlier, the assistant to the US Secretary of State Daniel Fried said that Washington seeks to resolve the disagreements between NATO countries on the accession of Ukraine and Georgia to the mentioned plan. During the summit in Bucharest, the American leadership intends to advocate the further rapprochement of NATO with the former Soviet republics.
