FIVB is preparing a rule on the limit on foreign players

He developed proposals on a number of issues for approval at the June FIVB Congress in Dubai. Significant changes to the balance of power in the European arena could be made by the introduction of a rule on a limit on foreign players in clubs.

Next season, in club tournaments, each team will be allowed to use no more than two foreign players on the court in a given match. For the countries of the European Union there are no restrictions on attracting volleyball players with EU passports in the 2008-2010 seasons (this applies to 32 national federations). In the 2009/10 season, you can include no more than four Varangians in a club’s application for the tournament, but use a maximum of two on the court at the same time. In the 2010/11 season and beyond, the match roster (12 players in total) must contain at least nine players from their own country and no more than three foreign players, while no more than two foreigners can be on the court at the same time.

Moiseeva's doping case closed


Yesterday in Holmenkollen, Norway, the last, ninth, stage of the Biathlon World Cup ended with two races from a general start. Germany's Kati Wilhelm won the women's 12.5 km mass start race. Wilhelm was accurate in her shooting, which allowed her to beat Norway's Solveig Rogstad and Italy's Micaela Ponza, who respectively won silver and bronze. Russian Ekaterina Yuryeva finished 10th with three penalties. Svetlana Sleptsova (pictured) , who earned two gold medals in Holmenkollen, did not start in this race. Having received all the necessary documents - a statement from the athlete, explanatory notes from the doctor of the Russian team and representatives of the Russian Biathlon Union, the IBU leaders decided that the athlete was not guilty. According to All Sport, IBU Vice President of Medical Affairs Dr. James Carrabre concluded that the drug was used as a necessary treatment for ophthalmic (eye) disorders. For Class S9 of the current WADA Prohibited List, such use is not prohibited and does not require completion of a TUE form. Thus, the IBU stopped the investigation and closed the case.

Ishchenko opened a medal account


At the European Aquatics Championships in Eindhoven, Holland, Russian Natalya Ishchenko became second in the solo synchronized swimming tournament. Ishchenko lost 0.1 points to Spaniard Jema Mengual, who had 98,400 points. The bronze medal was won by Italian Beatrice Adelizzi with 94,000 points.

Yesterday was the final in the team competition, where the Spanish team was considered the favorite, having won the preliminary competition. Russian athletes did not take part in this event. Let us recall that Ishchenko represented Russia alone at the European Championship. The rest of the domestic synchronized swimmers did not come to Eindhoven, citing the flu.
