The City Court of St. Petersburg recognized the arrest of the leader of the St. Petersburg branch of Yabloko, Maxim Reznik, accused of applying violence against police officers and their insult, RIA Novosti reports. The judge decided to release Reznik and send the case for a new consideration.
In early March, the Dzerzhinsky court of St. Petersburg arrested Reznik for two months, who was suspected of the fact that on the night of March 3, during the conflict with the police, he inflicted several blows to them and insulted them. The Reznik was charged under Articles 318 (the application of violence in the relationship of the authorities, provides for up to five years in prison) and 319 (insulting a representative of the authorities, provides for correctional labor for a period of up to a year) of the Criminal Code.
On March 14, representatives of the creative and scientific intelligentsia of St. Petersburg made an open letter to the leadership of the country, in which they are asked to release the arrested leader of the St. Petersburg branch of Yabloko Maxim Reznik.
As the letter says, the choice of preventive measure "causes surprise and indignation. No one ever observed any criminal inclinations for Maxim Reznik. The statement that being at large, he will pose a public danger, will be hidden from justice, and the authors of the letter are convincing.
Among the signed by the open letter, director Alexei German, historian Yakov Gordin, actor Alexei Devotchenko, Olympic champion Lyubov Egorova, poet Alexander Kushner, writer Samuel Lurie, human rights activist Lev Ponomarev and writer Boris Strugatsky.
Earlier, letters in support of Reznik were signed by Sergey Yursky, Oleg Basilashvili, Alexey Simonov, Andrei Piontkovsky, Grigory Yavlinsky, Mikhail Kasyanov, Harry Kasparov, Nikita Belykh.
In addition, on March 11, Yabloko leader Grigory Yavlinsky asked President Vladimir Putin to pay attention to the fate of Maxim Reznik. Yavlinsky said that he considers the case of Reznik the revenge of the authorities for his political activity. He also reminded Putin that Reznik is the organizer of a large -scale opposition conference scheduled for April.
After a meeting with the President, Yavlinsky called his mother Maxim Reznik and told her that Putin "promised to figure it out."
