
In Makhachkala, the chairman of the Dagestan State Traffic Safety Inspectorate Gaji Abashilov was killed, RIA Novosti reports. According to a law enforcement source, Abashilov’s car was fired from automatic weapons on Friday evening in the Uzbek-Gorodka area in Makhachkala. The attack occurred when Abashilov returned home from work.
The driver of Abashilova was hospitalized with injuries. Half an hour after the attempt, the police discovered a car in which, as the killers were supposed to disappear, the Vesti TV channel said.
The investigation of the murder of Abashilov was taken under personal control by the Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika. The official representative of the Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin said that a criminal case was instituted on the fact of the murder, which was accepted for the production of the Main Investigation Department in the Southern Federal District. He did not specify the article on which the case was opened. "In place of the incident, investigators and forensic scientists of the Investigative Department of the SCP in Dagestan, as well as their colleagues from the Main Investigative Department of the SCP in the Southern Federal District," Markin said.
Earlier on Friday, in the apartment in the north-east of Moscow, the corpse of the journalist of Channel One Ilyas Shurpaev with traces of stab wounds was discovered. According to preliminary information, Shurpaev was strangled by a trouser belt. Ilyas Shurpaev made reports about events in Dagestan. On the Channel One website, his last report on recovery work in the New Afon Monastery in Abkhazia was dated March 12. Before arriving at the first channel, Shurpaev worked on NTV, in the office of the television channel in the North Caucasus.
Shurpaev made the last record on his blog the day before. He said that, according to him, the founders of one of the Dagestan newspapers, where his notes were released, was forbidden to print them. According to the Caucasian Knot, recently the presidential administration and the Dagestan government have been attempted to restrict negative information about Dagestan in the media, especially at the federal level. Shurpaev was one of the defendants in this campaign.
