Mahmoud Abbas is going to Moscow again

The head of the Palestinian National Administration Mahmoud Abbas said that he intends to visit Moscow in the near future, RIA Novosti reports. “This visit will be held in the near future,” said the Palestinian leader after negotiations with the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Sergei Lavrov.

Abbas also congratulated the Russian leadership on the successful completion of election campaigns. "We see in them a confirmation of the course for democracy, which Russia follows," said Abbas.

The last visit of Abbas to Moscow took place in July 2007. He with the Russian leadership discussed the development of the situation in the Middle East and Palestinian territories.

This was the first visit of the head of autonomy to Russia after the June intra -Palistine clashes, as a result of which the Gaza sector has passed under the control of the radical movement of Hamas. The political split between the leading Palestinian organizations Fath and Hamas led to the collapse of the government of national unity and the actual dual power.
