The current world champion Kimi Raikkonen became the winner of the Grand Prix of Malaysia, while his Ferrari partner Felipa dropped out of the race due to a mistake. The second place for the first time in his career was taken by Robert Kubitsa at the BMW-Zauber, the third was Haikki Kovalainen at McLaren.
The beginning of the race in Sipanda was less rich in clashes, compared with the start of a week ago in Australia. Nico Rosberg with Timo Glok was not divided, as a result of which Toyota was parked in boxes, and Williams returned to the last highway. Also, Sebastian Budde on Toro Rosso was unlucky - the Frenchman flew out in the first turn and stuck in a gravel trap.
Meanwhile, the leaders confidently went to the distance. Two Ferrari caught up in the first turn, but the mass retained his position. But, in the remaining places in the point zone there was a number of permutations. The cube and Mark Webber reached the 3rd and 4th places, and Yarno Truly, on the contrary, sank to the 6th position, letting Lewis Hamilton ahead.
Nick Hyidfeld began at the start of the fifth race at the start of 10th place, but after a few circles, David Kulthard and Fernando Alonso, who were fighting with each other, was able to go with each other. The Spaniard on Renault was able to squeeze the Scotsman and reached the 9th position.
Further, the situation in the race was stable to the first series of refueling. It was after the visit to the boxes that the mass parted with the leader’s position - Raikkonen remained on the highway a couple longer and after a visit to the boxes returned ahead of his partner.
The first pit stop was fatal for Hamilton. The McLaren mechanics had difficulties with the replacement of the right front wheel, and upon returning to the track, the Briton rolled away to 7th place.
The second pilot of the "silver arrows" Hikeki Kovalainen, on the contrary, won several positions and was in 4th place. Truly and Webber are located between the two pilots of McLaren, and Haydfeld, persecuted by Alonso, closed the glass zone.
But on the 30th circle of these pilots, a surprise in the form of a gathering of one of the leaders of the race was expected. The mass may have been too zealously trying to reduce the lag from Raikkonen, and in the 8th turn he could not hold the car and flew into the security lane. Ferrari got bogged down in gravel, burying the hopes of the Brazilian for the first podium in the season.
Next, the race took place in a calm way - the next rearrangement in the point zone again occurred during a series of refueling. Webber clearly experienced difficulties in managing Red Bull and after the pit stop was behind the pair of Hamilton-Hidfeld, chasing the Australian before a visit to the boxes. Shortly before the finish line, Webber caught up with Alonso, but the Spaniard was not able to win the fight in 7th place.
At the same time, Hamilton, who received the operational spaces, began to catch up with the 4th trurals walking. The British managed to reduce the gap from five seconds to one, but the Toyota pilot retained the position to the finish line.
There was no permutation in the leading three. The winner became Raikkonen, in 19 seconds a cube finished behind him, providing himself with the best result in his career, and Kovalainen became the third, reports Ren-TV.com .
