Egyptian President goes to Russia to support her participation in a tender for the construction of a nuclear reactor

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak will visit Russia on a visit on March 24-26, the Egyptian ambassador to the Russian Federation was told by Ipat al-Said. During the visit, an agreement will be signed between the two countries on cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

"This agreement will be beneficial to one countries, as our relations in the field of energy make more significant. This framework agreement will allow the Russian side to participate in the tender for the construction of our own nuclear reactor for energy and electricity," Egypt's ambassador said.

According to him, the corresponding tender will be declared Egypt in a few months. He explained that similar cooperation agreements in the peaceful use of nuclear energy are signed by Egypt with about 10 countries. “We have good impressions of Russian nuclear technologies. We have already got acquainted with them. I think that the visit will be promising,” the Russian Ambassador to the tender’s chances commented on.

He noted that Egypt is a member of the agreement on non -proliferation of nuclear weapons, that Egypt cooperates with the IAEA and, according to the day, Egypt has the right to use peaceful atomic energy. He also noted that the agreement, which will be signed in Moscow, will allow Egyptian specialists to undergo training and trainings at the relevant Russian institutions.

"In Egypt, there are already many experts who received education in Russia," the ambassador said. He noted that Russian companies such as Lukoil, Novatek are already working in Egypt. “And we expect an increase in Russian investments,” the ambassador added.

"We are very satisfied that it was achieved in the relationship of Egypt and Russia since the beginning of the reign of President Putin. Much has been achieved due to the fact that today Egypt is the main economic partner of Russia in the Arab world and throughout Africa," the ambassador said.

According to him, last year the volume of trade in Egypt and Russia amounted to $ 2.1 billion, not counting the profit from tourism.

In addition, al-Said noted that Mubarak’s visit to Russia "occurs at a critical moment from a political point of view, when the peace process between the Palestinians and Israeli is practically frozen, the situation in the gas sector and ongoing violence is worsening."

According to him, at such a critical moment it is always important for Egypt to consult and exchange opinions with Russia. He recalled that Mubarak’s visit to Moscow will occur on the eve of the Arab summit in Damascus.
