| Critics sum up March
March, a time of transition - from winter to spring, from one president to another, on Russian television was no different from other months, judging by the assessments of members of the television critics club. All the reproaches - the vulgarity of entertainment programs, the lack of real information journalism, excesses with violence, servility towards the powers that be - are in their places. As well as praise for rare arthouse films, cultural programs and displays of freshness in new programs. It seems that television is going its own way, regardless of the cultural minority positions expressed by critics. However, critics who are unanimous in negative assessments and in positive ones lose their solidity, and here only the small number of high-quality works allows them not to disperse completely. This time, the critics awarded the greatest praise to “Closed Screening” by Alexander Gordon and the film “Breakaway” by Alexander Mindadze, with subsequent discussion. However, it is not very clear whether the film pleased everyone so much, the degree or style of the controversy that followed the screening, or the very fact of demonstrating an interesting and controversial work is already pleasing... And yet, the features of television reality are becoming more and more caricatured and poster-like... In the reflected mirror of criticism, I mean. |
