Ukraine will help Russia join the World Trade Organization (WTO). This, according to ITAR-TASS, said the country's Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko during a joint statement for the press after a meeting with Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov.
“Ukraine has already joined the World Trade Organization, and for Russia this issue will be resolved in the near future,” she said, promising that “Ukraine will help Russia, how much such opportunities will be.”
In addition, according to the head of the Ukrainian government, the parties intend to create a joint trade space, taking into account the norms and rules of the WTO.
10 points on which Russia and Ukraine will cooperate
In total, Tymoshenko explained, Ukraine and Russia determined 10 cooperation priorities. The first is just the WTO interaction. The second priority recognized the transition to strategic agreements in the field of supply and gas transit. “It is better if this agreement was signed for 10 years or more,” the prime minister said.
In the field of cooperation in the nuclear energy and nuclear industry, the parties decided to interact in extending the resource of existing Ukrainian nuclear power plants and the construction of new nuclear power plants.
Tymoshenko noted that cooperation in the development of uranium and zirconium deposits is provided. Ukraine also intends to participate in the international enrichment center of Uranus in Angarsk.
One of the priorities is production cooperation, as well as the implementation of joint projects in aircraft industry. "We are talking about the integration of the United Aircraft Corporation and Ukrainian aircraft Engineering Enterprises," the head of the Ukrainian government explained.
According to the prime minister, the parties also intend to cooperate in the creation of the ground infrastructure of using the GLONASS satellite system, ensuring the design of logistics centers in the border areas, and ensuring the safety of navigation in the Azovo-Kerchi Aquatoria.
The last priority is the development of the program of cooperation of the two countries in the field of nanotechnology until August 1.
Russian Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov, in turn, noted that the Russian Federation and Ukraine removed "almost all issues" of gas problems. But at the same time, he wants to see "transparent, concrete and understandable relations in this area for many years to come - maybe even for 10 years, fixing all the moments of supply and gas transit."
The head of the Russian government said that during a meeting in a narrow circle with Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, "we said that we only have to build an effective and stable system of interaction in the gas sphere." “Even more efforts and political will, and all issues will be resolved,” he concluded.
Russia is going to introduce protective duties against Ukrainian exports in connection with the entry of Ukraine to the WTO
Meanwhile, Russia is going to introduce protective duties against Ukrainian exports in connection with the entry of Ukraine to the WTO from May 16, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to a source in the Russian government.
In Moscow, they fear that Ukraine fulfills one of the conditions of entry - the resetting of imported duties by 60% of the goods will expel Ukrainian enterprises from its own market and their goods will pour in Russia.
According to the source, when Ukraine joins the secondary, the greatest problems within the framework of the free trade regime can cause supplies of agricultural goods, machinery and metallurgical products.
In particular, the deputy head of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Russian Federation (MVAR) Andrei Belousov said that Moscow fears that a stream of poor -quality alcohol would pour on the Russian market. "There is a risk that a stream of better alcoholic beverages from these countries will pour in Ukraine, and less high -quality Ukrainian products will enter Russia because of the existing free trade zone," Andrei Belousov said today.
At the same time, the introduction of duties will not mean a refusal of the free trade regime between the two countries.
According to Newsru.ua , the establishment by Russia of new duties can cause response measures from Ukraine. Back in February, Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko announced his intention to use membership in the WTO to achieve from Russia the abolition of protective duties that existed in relation to Ukraine.
According to Yushchenko, because of them, Ukrainian exports were reduced by $ 3 billion and as a result of the negative balance of Ukraine in trade with Russia reached $ 6 billion last year.
In turn, Russia is concerned about Kyiv’s decision to purchase fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants from the American company Westinghouse.
As reported by the Vedomosti newspaper with reference to the source at the Atomenergoprom, the contract was concluded without a tender, and the price at which the Americans will supply fuel cassettes to Ukraine, 40% higher than the Russian one.
A source close to the Ukrainian government told the newspaper that the contract with Westinghouse was concluded mainly with the aim of pressure on the Russian company in order to achieve its consent to create a joint venture in Ukraine for the production of fuel cassettes.
