The popular German magazine Focus has compiled a list of cars whose safety level is the highest. The basis for this rating was the results of a series of crash tests conducted by the EuroNCAP organization, whose methodology is currently the most objective in assessing the passive safety of new cars.
The presented list includes only those models that received the highest scores in the tests, that is, they earned five stars in all respects.
Among subcompact cars, the Peugeot 207 is recognized as the safest. Mazda 2, Toyota Yaris, Fiat Punto and Opel Corsa also distinguished themselves in this category.
Toyota Auris, Citroen C4, Nissan Qashqai, Peugeot 308 and Ford Focus were leaders in the compact car class.
In the business class car category, first place was awarded to Ford Mondeo . It is followed by two Swedish models - the Volvo V70 and Volvo S40 , the Toyota Prius hybrid and the German Volkswagen Passat . And in the older class, the victory went to Audi A6, Citroen C6, Honda Legend and Lexus GS .
The SEAT Altea was named the safest minivan. The safety performance of the Ford S-Max, Skoda Roomster, Ford Galaxy, Citroen C4 Picasso and Opel Zafira minivans is also highly rated.
As for crossovers, the Germans gave first place to Volkswagen Touareg, Land Rover Freelander and Volkswagen Tiguan . Perhaps the BMW X5 would also be on the list, but, as the Wheels portal writes, the Bavarian SUV has not yet been crash tested. But the Audi Q7 could not score five stars during EuroNCAP tests, and therefore was not included in the publication’s rating.
