The presidential election in Lebanon was postponed to the 19th time

A session of the Lebanese parliament, which was supposed to take place on Tuesday for the election of the president of the country, was postponed to June 10. As ITAR-TASS reports, the speaker of the Legislative Assembly announced this today. This is the 19th transfer of voting in a country living in the conditions of a domestic political crisis, the sharpest since the Civil War of 1975-90.

The crisis, lasting the past year and a half, last week resulted in open clashes between supporters of the ruling coalition and the militants of the Shiite organization Hizballlah, playing the "first violin" in the ranks of the opposition.

The statement of the command of the Lebanese Army published today in Beirut says that the military, starting from Tuesday, will use force to restore law and order in accordance with the law.

On Sunday in Cairo, an emergency meeting of the League of the Arab states (LAG) on Lebanon, foreign ministers of the LAG countries called the opposing parties to the immediate end of fire and the placement of army units in the areas of the conflict. They spoke out for the immediate formation of the Government of National Unity in Lebanon and the election of the army commander Michel Suleiman by the president of the country.
