Obama, on the day of commemoration, celebrated in the United States on Monday, mentioned in his speech before American soldiers that his cousin Charlie Payne in April 1945 participated in the liberation of Auschwitz.

At the same time, it is known that Auschwitz was liberated in Poland by Soviet troops in January 1945. And the relative of Obama participated in the 89th Infantry Division of the United States in the liberation of one of Buchenwald’s camps in German Thuringia - Ordurf, politics said at the headquarters.

“The family of Senator Obama is proud that his grandfather and other relatives participated in the Second World War,” said the representative of the politician Bill Burton. “On the eve of the Senator mistakenly mentioned Auschwalzim instead of Buchenwald, speaking of military experience in his own family.”

Obama’s mistake caused a violent reaction of users of information Internet sites. The Republican Party demanded explanations.
