Ex-Chancal in Germany Schroeder can become a Russian academician

The former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder can become a Russian academician. The Department of Public Sciences of the Russian Academy of Sciences nominated the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder as a candidate for foreign members of the Russian Academy of Sciences with a degree in international relations, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the press service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

"Schroeder has always been distinguished by a balanced approach to solving complex economic and social problems, advocates the development of comprehensive relations between Germany and the EU with Russia," the Help said.

Now the 64-year-old Schroeder heads the Committee of the shareholders of the company-operator of the North Stream gas pipeline project, has a degree.

In co-authorship with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair Shreder in 1999 wrote a work called “The Path forward for European Social Democracy”, where he analyzes demographic changes in society and the process of globalization.

The candidate is the author of the monograph "Decisions. My life in politics", translated into Russian and published in 2007 with the preface by Dmitry Medvedev, who was then the first deputy prime minister of the Russian Federation. The book, along with facts, contains the author’s thoughts about the national and world economics, the present and future of Europe. The special chapter is devoted to Russia.

However, not everyone likes this emphasized proximity with Russia: the late American senator Tom Lantos even incorrectly called the ex-Chancellor a political prostitute .

In total, 14 candidates were nominated to foreign members of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The voting results of academicians, corresponding members and foreign members of the Russian Academy of Sciences will become known on Thursday.
