Lawyer: Alexander Kopsev died in a colony

Alexander Kopsev, convicted of attacking Jews in the Moscow synagogue, died in a colony. According to Echo of Moscow, lawyer Vitaliy Khavkin, who represented the interests of the victims, said that Kopsev, apparently, committed suicide. FSIN comments have not yet been received.

Meanwhile, according to Gazeta.ru, Koptsev’s lawyer Vladimir Kirsanov denied information about the death of his client.

Koptsev on January 11, 2006 attacked the parishioners of the synagogue on Bolshaya Bronnaya Street. As a result, nine people were injured. He was found guilty under Articles 30 and 105 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder) and Article 282 of the Criminal Code - (inciting religious and national growth).

In September 2006, the Moscow City Court sentenced Kopsev to 16 years in prison. In addition, the court appointed the accused forced treatment at the psychiatrist at the place of serving the sentence. Lawyers asked to mitigate the verdict, because, in their opinion, the decision of the Moscow City Court is not objectively.

In the last word, Alexander Kopsev apologized to the victims. “I realized my mistake and sincerely regret that I was injured by the victims and caused suffering to their loved ones. The anger and hatred, which increased day by day, took me away from the surrounding reality, closed my mind. Only in this way I can explain my act,” he said.
