According to RIA Novosti, among the 14 new foreign members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, in addition to Schroeder, six representatives of the United States, two - China and Italy and one at a time - Finland, France, Ukraine.

The 64-year-old Schroeder heads the Committee of the shareholders of the company-operator of the North Stream gas pipeline project, has a degree. He is the author of the monograph "Decisions. My life in politics", translated into Russian and published in 2007 with the preface of Dmitry Medvedev, who was then the first deputy prime minister.

In co-authorship with former British Prime Minister Tony Blair Shreder in 1999 wrote a work called “The Path forward for European Social Democracy”, where he analyzes demographic changes in society and the process of globalization.

Earlier it became known that during a secret vote, the director of the Kurchatov Institute, Mikhail Kovalchuk, did not gain the right number of votes.

The member of the Commission of Economic Development Andrei Belousov, Chairman of the Accounts Chamber Sergei Stepashin, economist Vladimir Mau, President of the Association of Russian Banks Garepin Tosunyan and the leader of the Patriots of Russia party, Gennady Semigin, did not become the member of the Complex. The well -known economist Ruslan Greenberg did not receive the title of academician.

The academicians became economist Sergei Glazyev and the Governor of the Khabarovsk Territory Viktor Ishaev. State Duma deputy Arthur Chilingarov became a corresponding member.

The largest number of places (seven academicians and 22 members) was allocated to the department of nanotechnologies and information technologies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It was according to this quota that Mikhail Kovalchuk, now the acting vice president of the Russian Academy of Sciences, was running for academics. Observers noted that in the event of his election, he could apply for any higher post in the Russian Academy of Sciences, including the presidential one. His brother Yuri Kovalchuk is considered a close friend of Vladimir Putin.

On Friday, the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences will take place. The Presidium of the Academy recommended that the general meeting re -elect the acting head of the Academy Yuri Osipov to the post of president. The chance to be re -elected for the fourth term of Osip, who will turn 72 in July, received thanks to the adoption of the new Charter of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The situation on the age qualification was excluded from it.

In addition to Osipov, the head of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valery Chereshnev and Academician Secretary Vladimir Fortov apply for the post of head of the Academy.
