The captain of the world computer business and for a decade - the richest person on the planet Bill Gates said goodbye to his friends and colleagues, leaving the post of head of the Microsoft Corporation. Friday was the last working day of the billionaire at full rate.
From Monday, Gates will fully devote himself to charitable activities in the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, under the management of which a significant part of the colossal state of a successful entrepreneur has already passed. Nevertheless, he will remain the honorary chairman of the board of directors of Microsoft and will monitor the development of new technological projects in the company.
Speaking with a farewell speech at the Microsoft headquarters in Redmond (Washington), Gates noted that in the future there will be one of the main areas of work of the corporation.
For the past six months, the corporation has tried to acquire one of the leading search portals in the world - Yahoo, but negotiations were unsuccessful. “People, apparently, are wondering: will Microsoft come to the market of the interpreter,” said Gates. “I want to answer them: we are on the way, and we will become the best.”
Gates and his friend Paul Allen created Microsoft Corporation in 1975 literally in the garage. In the same year, Gates threw his studies at Harvard University and devoted himself to the realization of his own vision of the world, where the computer was supposed to become an integral part of each house and each working office.
33 years later, Gates leaves the post of head of the world's largest computer company, and the Windows program shell created under his leadership works on the vast majority of computers around the world for many years.
52 -year -old Gates leaves Microsoft in the hands of his fellow student from Harvard, Steve Balmer, who has been the executive director of the corporation for several years. Getting a farewell gift from Balmer, Gates could not hold back tears, reports Associated Press. Gates still belongs to the largest stake in this company - 8.7 percent, the market value of which is today about $ 23 billion.
