More than 300 students who advocate the right to participate in the management of the educational institution captured the building of the National College of Buenos Aires at the metropolitan university, RIA Novosti reports.
Participants of the action said that they demand to improve the level of education, to create with their participation the coordination council of the college endowed with the right to choose the rector, as well as to conduct a major overhaul of the building.
The teenagers spent the past night inside the educational institution, barricading the entrances and exits. Classes in the college are canceled (in Argentina is now winter, and the educational process is in full swing). Pupils intend to start classes only after the full satisfaction of their requirements.
"The claims of the students may be fair, however, the problem should be solved by dialogue, and not by capturing the building," said the rector of the college of Virkhinia Gonzalez Gass. The leadership has already threatened schoolchildren to deprive them of educational trips around the country, which are usually carried out in October.
The National College of Buenos Aires is considered a prestigious general educational institution. It is located only 200 meters from the residence of the President of Argentina Kas Rosad. More than two thousand children are studying in it.
Argentina’s police usually does not interfere in the protest, considering a similar manifestation in the Society for the Protection of Rights not contrary to the law.
Strikes for various occasions are very popular in Argentina. Agricultural manufacturers opposing an increase in taxes for the export of their products are striking 112 days. On Monday, the metro did not work, taxi drivers protested on Tuesday. From time to time, the defenders of human rights are rallyed on the Central May Square. The movement in the city is difficult, since various few groups constantly block the highways, demanding respect for their legal rights.
