
President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev on Saturday at a meeting in the Kremlin instructed the government, in particular, the Ministry of Emergencies, the Ministry of Health and Social Development and the Federal Migration Service to take all the necessary operational measures to provide humanitarian assistance to the civilian population of South Ossetia and Russian peacekeepers. The Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation began deploying points of temporary placement of refugees from South Ossetia in the territory of the Southern Federal District of Russia.
As the head of the Ministry of Emergencies Sergei Shoigu reported to the president, by 12 o’clock in the afternoon, the points of temporary accommodation of 3.5 thousand people will be ready. “I think that by the end of the day we will be able to go on a stationary placement in about 10 thousand people,” Shoigu said.
In addition, according to him, tent camps are deployed near the border with Southern Ossetia, designed for 2 thousand people. According to Shoigu, a mobile hospital for the wounded from South Ossetia "was also delivered, deployed and ready to receive the wounded." The minister noted that "there is a need for medicines and doctors, but this problem will be solved."
According to Interfax agency on Saturday in the press service of the Southern Regional Center of the Ministry of Emergencies of the Russian Federation, four points of temporary placement with a total capacity of 2 thousand places evacuated from South Ossetia are deployed in the Alagirsky district.
"One point for temporary placement is equipped in the area of the village of Red Traffic, three more - in the Alagirsky district. They are equipped with everything necessary - food, medical support, psychologists will work," the press service said.
According to the representative of the press service, North Ossetia at these hours sends two rescue centers of the Russian Ministry of Emergencies 495 and 345 from the Rostov and Volgograd regions and 48 tons of humanitarian aid.
"Food, as well as autonomous energy supply sources, is in humanitarian aid," the press service noted.
“In connection with the aggression that was unleashed by the Georgian side against the civilian population of South Ossetia and Russian peacekeepers, there were many very complex humanitarian problems that we have to deal with in accordance with our mandate and just the duty,” said Dmitry Medvedev at a meeting in the Kremlin.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister, head of the government apparatus Sergey Sobyanin, head of the Ministry of Emergencies Sergey Shoigu, Minister of Health and Social Development Tatyana Golikova and director of the Federal Migration Service Konstantin Romodanovsky.
