| FOOTBALL. September 5. Qualifying match for the Youth (U-21) European Championship. Russia - Georgia. Minsk (Belarus). September 5-6. Qualifying matches for the 2010 World Cup.
Due to the complex political relations between Russia and Georgia, UEFA decided to hold the match between the youth teams of these two countries on a neutral field. The Russian Football Union, as the host side, proposed the Traktor stadium in the Belarusian capital. Just four days after the game with Georgia, the Russians will compete with Spain away in the city of Palencia.
21 players are preparing for these matches under the leadership of head coach Boris Stukalov. These are goalkeepers Soslan Dzhanaev (Spartak M), Anton Shunin (Dynamo); defenders Vladimir Granat (Dynamo), Fedor Kudryashov (Khimki), Andrey Lukanchenkov (Ural), Yuri Lebedev (Nosta), Kirill Nababkin (Moscow), Dmitry Yatchenko (Spartak Nch); midfielders Mikhail Bakaev (Alania), Denis Glushakov (Lokomotiv), Alan Dzagoev (CSKA), Alan Kasaev (Kuban), Dmitry Kombarov, Kirill Kombarov (both Dynamo), Alexander Ryazantsev (Rubin "), Oleg Samsonov ("Spartak" Nch), Ivan Taranov ("Wings of the Soviets"), Viktor Faizulin ("Zenit"), Roman Shishkin ("Spartak" M); forwards Artem Dzyuba, Alexander Prudnikov (both Spartak M). True, due to disqualification, Granat, K. Kombarov and Taranov will not be able to take part in the match with Georgia.
The position in our group 4 is now as follows: Spain - 18 points (6 games), Russia - 12 (6), Kazakhstan - 6 (7), Poland - 6 (7), Georgia - 6 (6). The winners of ten groups plus four more teams that took second place with the best additional indicators advance to the next round of the tournament. These 14 participants are drawn into seven pairs. The winners of the two matches (home and away) receive the right to compete at the Euro 2009 final tournament in Sweden.
Due to the fact that the youth team plays two matches in a row, and the senior Russian national team is preparing for the 2010 World Cup qualifying game (September 10 in Moscow against Wales), there is a planned “window” in the Premier League calendar this week.

HOCKEY. September 2. Start of the Kontinental Hockey League championship .
The leaders of the Continental Hockey League are positioning their brainchild as an organization that can be a real competitor to the overseas NHL. However, behind the loud PR of the league, for some reason, essential details are forgotten. For example, two days before the start of the championship, it is impossible to find the tournament calendar on the official KHL website. Absolute nonsense!

BEACH VOLLEYBALL. September 2-7. World Tour stage. Women. Myslowice (Poland). World Tour stage. Men. Palma de Mallorca (Spain).
For some time after the Olympics, many leading couples do not participate in the World Tour competitions, restoring their strength. For lesser-known teams, there is a good opportunity to get hold of rating points and earn good prize money. So, last week, Russians Galina Boyko and Anna Markova made it from qualification to the main tournament on the sand courts of Norwegian Kristiansand and eventually reached the third round. Ninth place at the FIVB tournament is the best result in our girls’ careers.
ATHLETICS. September 5. The final, sixth stage of the “Golden League” is the Van Damme Memorial. Brussels (Belgium).
Two athletes who won all five previous stages are competing to share the $1 million jackpot. These are Croatian high jumper Blanka Vlasic and Kenyan runner Pamela Jelimo, who specializes in the 800m distance. But even if Vlasic wins in Brussels and gets the right to receive a more than substantial fee, this is unlikely to compensate for the bitterness of her sensational defeat at the Olympics in rivalry with Tia Hellebaut from Belgium.
"FORMULA-1". September 7. Belgian Grand Prix. Circuit de Spa-Francocharme.
The previous stage of the Formula 1 World Auto Racing Championship took place on the last competitive day of the Olympics, when the final matches in men's team sports were held. Naturally, the events of the European Grand Prix at the circuit in Valencia, Spain remained in the shadows. Felipe Massa (Ferrari) celebrated the victory there, Lewis Hamilton (McLaren) and Robert Kubica (BMW-Sauber) also took a place on the podium.
The peculiarity of the upcoming Belgian race is that the track is partially laid on a public road. The length of the distance is 306.8 km (44 laps of 6973 m). Last season, Kimi Raikkonen (Ferrari) celebrated his victory, having distinguished himself here three times already. We remind you of the current position of the leaders in the drivers' championship: Hamilton - 70 points, Massa - 64, Raikkonen - 57, Kubica - 55.
CYCLE HIGHWAY. September 1-7. Multi-day race on the roads of Spain "Vuelta". 3--8 stages.
The first day off at the current Vuelta will be unusually early - after the sixth stage, that is, on Friday. A certain “sinking” of participants in the general classification will occur on Wednesday, when a 42.5 km time trial race takes place in the vicinity of the city of Ciudad Real. On Saturday the serious mountains will begin, the peloton will visit the dwarf state of Andorra. Prepared by Ilya TRISVIATSKY | |
