In total, 16 people took part in the creation of the new organization.Students elected the governing body of their organization - the council of elders. It included representatives of radical youth movements, mainly the National Bolsheviks themselves. Among them are Alexandra Safronova (famous for slapping the Minister of Education and Science Andrei Fursenko in the face in 2005), Andrei Milyuk (member of the NBP, who was once introduced into the ranks of the pro-Kremlin Nashi movement), Evgenia Anikanova, Margarita Filippova, Sergei Yezhov and editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Limonka" Alexey Volynets. All elders are very active participants in the street opposition movement, as evidenced by repeated arrests by law enforcement agencies.
As NBP press secretary, member of the executive committee of the opposition coalition “The Other Russia” Alexander Averin told reporters, the “Union of Students” will be an independent organization that protects the rights of students. The goals and objectives of the Students' Union were formulated in the organization's manifesto. According to the document, the “Union” is being created to fight for an educational system that “will literally be the forge of the nation’s intellectual elite.”
“The image of a standard conformist student, combed with the ideology of “sovereign democracy,” thinking only about his career, is consigned to the trash heap. Today, the student returns in the understanding of Dostoevsky - personifying a lively mind, directness of soul, independence of judgment and devotion to public interests,” the manifesto says.
According to the founders of the Union of Students, “the modern Russian state listens little to the opinion of students, plays with them, involving them in “sham pro-Kremlin youth projects.” The National Bolsheviks do not want to put up with attempts to “stamp out single-celled youth, driven by the primitive leadership into the framework of what is permitted.”
The “Union of Students” intends to create its own cells in each educational institution and fight for increased scholarships, an increase in the number of budget places in universities, improved living conditions in dormitories, and an increase in state funding for education. The new organization also wants to achieve direct elections of university rectors “and strengthen the involvement of students in the process of managing education in Russia.”
