Will Russia, which opposes the United States, remain Venezuela's best friend? And in these new conditions, who needs maneuvers in the Caribbean at all?
Here's another obvious consideration. When everything is in order with the economy, when petrodollars are raining on the country, you can afford to play with your triceps. However, when you need to seriously think about how to pay salaries and pensions in a few months and how to prevent the collapse of the banking and credit systems, America, Europe, Russia, and Asia have no time for war games. Here completely different priorities and interests come to the fore.
What if the Russian Federation really seriously worries the West with its actions? What if the industrial leaders of the world, as a priority task, take up the creation of a nuclear power plant-electric vehicle system, the transformation of coal into oil (a technology known since the Second World War) and other alternative energy, which has been constantly delayed due to carelessness?! What if the newly elected US President announces a program for the construction of electric highways (similar to Roosevelt’s plan to build a network of highways, which brought the United States out of the crisis in the thirties of the last century) - what then will OPEC do with Gazprom? Indeed, if the program for energy re-equipment of the world is implemented, the prices of oil and gas will interest humanity no more than the price of oats, which seemed in the era of horse-drawn transport and even at the dawn of automobile industry to be an unshakable currency for all times - harder than gold.
What unites our friends besides opposition to the West? Libya, Iran or Venezuela are not countries of European culture. Is it possible to be the best friend of the enemies of Western civilization and at the same time consider yourself an integral part of it? A question that, in the era of searching for ways out of the crisis that has gripped the world, is also becoming key.
There was August - and August passed, there was a war in Georgia - and it passed, going not even into the background, but into distant place compared to other tasks and pressing problems. Three months later (at the very time when the leaders of the Russian state are making peace-loving proposals, talking about a multipolar world and the transformation of the Russian Federation into a technological superpower, and looking for joint ways out of the global crisis with the West), maneuvers in the Caribbean are objectively harming Russia’s strategic interests.
