The oldest American died at the age of 112

The oldest resident of the country died in the USA - George Francis. He died last Saturday in a private sanatorium in Sacramento from acute heart failure, reports AP. Heron-Gontologist Stephen Coles from the University of California Los Angeles said that Francis lived 112 years and 204 days.

“He lived for four years in the 19th century, 100 years in the XX century, and 8 years in the XXI century. We call him a man of three centuries,” said his 81-year-old son Anthony Francis-Jr..

Francis considered his family the secret of his longevity. He and his wife had four children, 18 grandchildren, 33 great -grandson and 16 great -great -grandchildren.

George Francis was born on June 6, 1896 in New Orleans. Like any African American who lived in the south, in his youth he had to experience all the injustice of laws on racial segregation. After the sixth grade, Francis left the school and took up boxing. He later worked as a driver, a car mechanic and a hairdresser. During the First World War, Francis tried to admit the army, but did not pass because of his too tall.

According to his son, Francis never lost interest in politics. In the 1930s, he voted behind Roosevelt, and in 2008-for Barack Obama. "He will give African Americanists the opportunity to live better and earn more money," Francis said in an interview with Associated Press immediately after the election. “In my opinion, those people who say that voting is pointless, crazy.”
