Gas supply in Transnistria is completely discontinued

The gas supply in Transnistria is completely stopped, residential buildings are disconnected from central heating, Interfax was told in a special headquarters to overcome the gas crisis created by the authorities of the Transdnestrovsky Republic.

"At present, the gas supply to all the villages of the Kamensky, Dubossarsky, Grigoriopol and Slobodzey districts of Transnistria has been completely stopped. In the Rybnitsky district and cities of Transnistria, heating is turned off only for cooking," the agency’s interlocutor said.

According to him, at the meeting of the headquarters on Saturday, it was noted that many Transnistria enterprises are on the verge of a complete stop.

The local population is actively buying electric heaters, as well as bread, although on the eve of the bakeries announced that they were ready to work on alternative fuel and provide the population with bakery products in the required volume.

Members of the headquarters stated that all further decisions would be made depending on the resolution of the problem of gas supplies between Russia and Ukraine.

“Due to the lack of gas, the situation in Transnistria, despite the fact that it is close to critical, still remains stable and controlled,” said the representative of the headquarters, referring to the performances of the meeting participants.

The meeting also noted that from medical institutions that are disconnected from heating, people were transferred to other buildings where heat supply at the minimum level is maintained. A decision was made to extend the holidays in schools and the closure of kindergartens until January 19.

Gas is delivered to gas stations, where residents of the region can refill the cylinders with gas for cooking. In heating systems at enterprises, individual facilities and small settlements, water is merged to prevent failure in conditions of gas and frosts (the temperature on the street is from 0 to -5 degrees).

In Tiraspol, the temperature of the water in the heating system is kept at +15 degrees - in order to prevent the system for frostbite. Moldova President Vladimir Voronin held a telephone conversation with the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko on Saturday.

According to the press service of the Moldovan president, the result of the conversation "was an agreement that Ukraine would resume gas supply to the Republic of Moldova in the amounts necessary to maintain the gas transmission system and social objects of the country, as well as emergency support for ordinary consumers."

The press service also emphasized that "this agreement of the presidents of Moldova and Ukraine also allows you to restore gas supply to the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova." At the same time, the Moldova-Gaz enterprise refused to comment on the situation with gas supply to Transnistria.
