Polish President Lech Kaczynski will not participate in the alternative gas summit, which is scheduled to take place in Ukraine on January 16. reports this RIA Novosti . Kaczynski was previously named as the organizer of this summit.

According to the publication, Kaczynski will be represented at the Kiev summit by the Minister in the Office of the President, Michal Kaminski. Earlier it was reported that Kaczynski invited representatives of ten countries affected by the Russian-Ukrainian gas conflict to participate in the summit.

Earlier it was reported that on January 17, Russia will hold a summit in Moscow with the participation of Russia, the EU and Ukraine, which will be dedicated to gas issues. European Commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs and the Minister of Energy of the Czech Republic presiding over the EU have already confirmed their participation in it.

Before this, it was assumed that the trilateral summit meeting would take place on the territory of one of the European countries. This was advocated, in particular, by Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko , who on January 14 said that he would take part in the summit if it was held in the EU.

The main issue that will be discussed at the above-mentioned meetings will obviously be the resumption of transit supplies of Russian gas to Europe through the territory of Ukraine, which were stopped by Gazprom on January 7. According to the Russian side, the Ukrainian Naftogaz illegally selected fuel intended for European consumers. Ukraine, however, has repeatedly rejected these accusations.
