After the New Year holidays, the Russians stopped spending money

The Russians met New Year and Christmas on a scale, increasing consumer expenses by 22%in December.

But, according to the Romir Panel study, which calculates the home consumption index, immediately after the New Year holidays, this indicator decreased by 17%in Russia.

Before the holidays, the capital's residents spent a lot, markedly ahead of the population of the rest of the country. When it came to a reduction in expenses, everyone was about an equal position, and Muscovites against the background of residents of other cities no longer allocated, comment on the data of "New Izvestia" .

The reduction in consumption by mid -January is taking place every year - people begin to count the remaining money and on weekdays do not allow themselves excesses. This is not directly connected with the crisis, the newspaper writes, but he introduced his characteristics into the usual picture.

Dmitry Yanin, Chairman of the Board of the International Confederation of Consumer Societies, noted that even against the backdrop of a significant increase in holiday expenses this year, a reduction in demand for clothes, entertainment and tourism was noticeable.

It is these articles of home expenses that will primarily fall under reduction in most families and in the near future. At the same time, the expert believes, in February-March it is possible to reduce demand in the food sector.

The consumption of food products may be affected by a weakening of the ruble exchange rate, which affects the cost of imported food, including meat and meat products, vegetables and especially fruits.

Since the dollar, which is mainly paid for imports, continues to grow, Russians with low incomes will force to significantly revise the family menu and abandon many of the usual types of food.
