
The defendants of the Chinese "Melamin scandal" Zhang Yuzyun and Gen Jespin were sentenced to death. Such a decision was made by the court of the city of Shijiazhuan in the province of Hebey on January 22.
According to RIA Novosti , Zhang Yuzzyun is accused of manufacturing and selling Melamin to dairy companies, Geng Jipin - in the sale of infected milk. BBC clarifies that Zhang Yuzzyun was found guilty of organizing an illegal factory in the east of China, which produced about 600 tons of fake "protein powder", made on the basis of melamine.
Two more defendants in the case received life imprisonment. In total, in the case of the addition of melamine to dry milk mixtures, 21 people are held, almost all the defendants are members of the board of Sanlu, who produced a dangerous product. It is reported by ITAR-TASS.
In early September, the facts of the disease of young children with urolithiasis became known in China. The cause of the disease was the use of a product in which melamine was added to increase the protein content. As a result, six babies died , 50 thousand children were hospitalized, about 300 thousand children were injured in total.
According to the PRC prosecutor’s office, from August 2 to September 12, Sanlu sold 904 tons of poisoned milk, making almost $ 7 million on this.
According to the court’s decision, the defendants in cases were found guilty of “creating a threat to public security with dangerous goals” or crimes related to the “production and sale of fake or low -quality products”.
The court also considered cases of 17 persons convicted in the production and sale of melanine to companies producing dairy products, RIA Novosti reports.
A few hours before the start of the hearing, people began to gather at the court building. In China, the story with melamine is perceived by the population especially acutely. For the first time, poor -quality Chinese products threatened the lives of hundreds of thousands of children. In this regard, the population openly called the authorities liable and required the highest sentences for the perpetrators.
