The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted on Monday a resolution on the responsibility of President Viktor Yushchenko for the situation in the financial sector of the country.
227 deputies voted for the decision (4 members of the Party of Regions, 154 - BET factions, 23 - "Our Ukraine", 27 - Communist Party and 19 - Litvin Bloc) out of 248.
According to the decision, due to the fact that the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko twice ignored the requirements of the Verkhovna Rada to dismiss Vladimir Stelmach from the post of head of the National Bank, the parliament admitted that Yushchenko "with his inactivity in the situation that developed in the financial and credit sphere, took on his personal responsibility for a sharp depreciation of the monetary unit of Ukraine."
The deputies also accuse the president of the fact that "numerous speculations in the foreign exchange and mortgage markets, non -compliance with commercial banks of obligations to depositors, significant abuse in the processes of refinancing of commercial banks, a complete lack of control over the activities of the commercials, which led to a significant deterioration in the well -being of Ukrainian citizens."
There are 450 deputies in the Ukraine parliament.
The Blok Yulia Tymoshenko and her government are accused of the head of the National Bank of devaluation of hryvnia, which over the past months has twice ashamed of foreign currency.
The dollar exchange rate from late September to mid -December 2008 in relation to the hryvnia grew from 5 to almost 10 hryvnias. Currently, the course is at the level of 8-8.2 hryvnias.
Tymoshenko considers the current currency course unreasonable and believes that the rate should be 6-6.5 hryvnia per dollar.
