The author of the Pakistani nuclear program Abdul Kadir Khan was released from house arrest

The head of the work on the creation of the Pakistani nuclear bomb, the physicist-physicist Abdul Kadir Khan was released on February 6 from house arrest. Recall that he has been under house arrest since 2004. It was reported that during the interrogations, Khan admitted to the transfer of nuclear secrets to Iran, DPRK, Libya and Malaysia. In June 2008, the scientist said that he was simply forced to speak with similar confessions.

"Abdul Kadir Khan is now a free person and no one else has the right to limit his freedom," ITAR -TASS quoted the words of the lawyer of the scientist Zafar Malik. Nevertheless, taking into account the fact that the nuclear physicist has access to particularly secret information about the country's nuclear industry, some restrictions will be applied to the freedom of movement of the scientist. It is reported that they are imposed by the law of the country on all secretaries.

The secret nuclear program of Pakistan started in 1972. Then the Prime Minister Zulfyar Ali Bhutto set the country's task to create his own Islamic nuclear bomb before physicists and engineers. In July 1976, work under the leadership of Abdul Kadir Khan began in the technical research laboratories of the city of Kahut. In May 1998, nuclear explosive devices were tested at the Chagai training ground.

According to the IAEA, during the implementation of the Pakistani nuclear program, its leader created the atomic black market through which it was dealing with private individuals and companies from more than 30 countries of the world.

At the end of 2003, the Pakistani authorities began the arrests of former colleagues and friends of the khan on charges of illegal supply of nuclear technologies and materials to foreign customers. He himself was also taken under arrest. In Pakistan, the khan is considered a national hero.

It was reported that the Supreme Court of Pakistan made the decision to withdraw house arrest from the 72-year-old physicist in July.

Currently, the Army of Pakistan has up to 50 nuclear warheads.
