Ivanov and Biden met in Munich to "restart" relations between Russia and the USA

The First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Sergey Ivanov welcomed the promise of the United States to “reboot” relations with Moscow as a “very positive” step.

He met with US Vice President Joe Bayden at the Munich Security Conference the day after Biden announced this in his speech regarding American foreign policy. The American vice president spoke of a dangerous drift in relations between Russia and NATO.

This was the first meeting between high -ranking representatives of the United States and Russia after the new president of the United States Barack Obama was sworn in January.

After the negotiations, the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia stated that they were “very interesting” and that the United States made it clear that they wanted to cooperate.

"The US administration gave a clear signal that was heard that they want to resume the dialogue between Russia and the United States on all issues representing mutual interest," Reuters quoted Sergei Ivanov quoted. The Russian politician also said that the new leaders in the USA and Russia are able to look at the problems of bilateral relations in a new way.

"Biden confirmed the most serious intentions to start from scratch, restart the mechanism of Russian -American relations," Ivanov said. “Whatever problems we take: this is the climate, the world financial crisis, Afghanistan, and the Iranian nuclear program - one way or another there is a field for interaction between Russia and the USA,” said the Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation.

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation also stated that the decision of the Kyrgyz government to liquidate the American military base in the country is in no way connected with the provision of Russian loan Bishkek.

"I categorically deny that the decision of the Kyrgyzstan on the liquidation of the base was made due to the receipt of the Russian loan," the deputy prime minister said. He emphasized that negotiations on the provision of a loan were conducted for about six months and in the future Russia will provide Kyrgyzstan with new loans, since the socio-economic situation in this country is very difficult.

Ivanov said that when he came to Kyrgyzstan as the Minister of Defense, he heard the claims of the Kyrgyz side to the functioning of the American base. Claims of a financial, environmental and legal nature were made, the Deputy Prime Minister noted.

Earlier, Joe Biden in his software speech indicated that it was time to revise many areas in which the North-Atlantic Union can and should cooperate with Russia.

However, he also warned that there would be disagreements. So, before meeting with Sergey Ivanov, Joe Biden said that Georgia itself should decide if she wanted to join NATO. Moscow resolutely objects to the accession of former Soviet republics to NATO.

"The time has come, paraphrasing the words of President Obama, press the Reset button and revise many areas in which we can and should work together," Joe Bayden said in his speech.

The United States and Russia will not be able to agree in everything, however, according to him, "the United States and Russia can remain with their opinions, but continue to work together in those areas where our interests coincide. And they come into many ways."

The American vice president added that the United States will not abandon plans for placing elements of the missile defense system in Central Europe.
