Import TVs additionally rise in price due to the increase in duties

In the near future, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin must sign a decision to increase import duties on liquid crystalline and plasma TVs from 10 to 15%. The draft document has already been approved at the last meeting of the Government Commission on protective measures in foreign trade and customs and tariff policy, writes the Gzt.ru newspaper .

Meanwhile, TV production in Russia is reduced. In January, production was closed at the Baltmikst enterprise in the Kaliningrad region, which assembled Panasonic, Philips, Sony, Sanyo. The reason is the reduction in demand as a result of the global crisis.

Production also falls at maternal enterprises. So, in January, the leadership of the Sony Corporation decided to reduce personnel by almost 10 thousand people and close one of the two factories in the ATI Prefecture.

The Russian government decided to support domestic manufacturers, despite the calls of the G7 not to get carried away with protectionism. Of course, there are practically no their TVs in Russia. But following the example of automotive industry, it is possible to conclude new investment ones with foreign manufacturers with subsequent localization.

However, foreign investors are in no hurry. The analyst of the Finam investment company Vladislav Kochetkov believes that the decision of the government commission is "an attempt to introduce a more favorable regime for investors." At the same time, according to his estimates, an increase in import duties by 5% even taking into account the fact that imported VAT will be charged with the increased customs value, will not lead to a significant increase in retail prices. The fact is that the prices of well-known brands will increase by at least 20-25% due to the devaluation of the ruble.
