Moscow will not supply the S-300 Iran

Moscow does not intend in the near future to supply Iran with the S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems. Such a deal could prevent the dialogue with the new US administration, reports Kommersant.

“The question of the supply of the S-300 Tehran has not changed. And it is unlikely to change after the visit of the Minister of Defense of Iran,” the publication press secretary of Rosoboronexport, Vyacheslav Davidenko, assured the publication in connection with the arrival of the head of the Iranian military department of Mostafa Mohammad Najar.

At the negotiations, the supply of Russian weapons, primarily the means of air defense, will be discussed. Tehran is especially interested in the S-300 PMU-1 missile and green complexes. So far, Russia does not intend to transmit these complexes to Iran. The main restraining factor is the reluctance to complicate the outlined improvement of relations with the United States.

In March, the first meeting of the head of the Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov with US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, in April, is a meeting by President Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama. In Moscow, they hope that in these negotiations the parties can find a compromise on nuclear disarmament and placement of objects about the United States in Eastern Europe.

The fact that Russia will put in Iran the S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems, in December 2007, the Minister of Defense of Iran Mostaf Mohammad Najar said. At the same time, he rejected the relationship between the agreement on the supply of modern Russian air defense systems with changes in the situation around the Iranian nuclear program and the US intelligence report for Iran, which reports that the Iranian military organizations did not work on the creation of nuclear weapons after the fall of 2003.
