The Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Viktor Chernomyrdin believes that objective prerequisites for the possible meeting of the heads of the state of Russia and Ukraine are not expected in the near future.
“At least today there is no subject for the meeting. What should the presidents should discuss today? What are the issues? What are the documents that they should discuss and sign, and who is preparing it?” V. Chernomyrdin said on Sunday in an interview with the Vesti Week (Russia TV channel), answering the question of a possible meeting of heads of state.
Commenting on the recent threat of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to declare the head of the Russian Embassy or any of the members of the Dip Completion of Person Non Grat, Chernomyrdin noted that this was only an occasion to arrange another scandal with Russia.
“Not Chernomyrdin, it means that there would be someone else. This is probably a reason, I think so to make a scandal with Russia. I don’t know who this scandal is good,” the head of the Russian diplomatic mission in Ukraine noted.
The Russian ambassador called the actions against him from the Ukrainian leadership "small -scale nit -picking, searching for an occasion." “Here, with regard to everything related to Russia, some of the wool stands on end,” Chernomyrdin believes.
He warned that he was "useless to scare." "I am not at the age and not in the position when you are scared of something. Ukraine is part of my soul and life for me. I never do nonsense," the Russian ambassador said.
According to Chernomyrdin, a series of scandals in the relations of Russia and Ukraine will sooner or later come to an end. “So it cannot last long. It should not be and will not happen. I am convinced of this,” he added.
As reported, on February 17, the Foreign Ministry of Ukraine said that V. Chernomyrdin could be declared a person Non Grat for anti -Ukrainian statements. Chernomyrdin was called to the Foreign Ministry, where the ambassador indicated his “unfriendly” and “extremely undivided” statements to Ukraine and its leadership ”and threatened him with the application of Article 9 of the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations. This article provides for the announcement of the person Non Grata the head or any of the members of the diplomatic representation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed bewilderment in connection with the demarche of the Ukrainian foreign policy. “With a sense of deep regret in Moscow, we got acquainted with information about the next unfriendly step of the Ukrainian authorities - presenting the Russian Foreign Ministry to the Russian Foreign Ministry in Kyiv Chernomyrdin and a number of other Russian representatives of certain claims with threats to declare their persons non grata,” the Russian Foreign Ministry of the Russian Foreign Department noted.
“The perseverance with which the leadership of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry contrary to the opinion of his country is trying to harm Russian -Ukrainian cooperation is surprising, to prevent the creation of a constructive atmosphere in a bilateral dialogue, to leave an objective conversation about the causes of problems in our relationship,” the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that for Moscow, the preservation of partnerships, good -neighborly and mutually beneficial relations with Ukraine is one of the main priorities.
"Both the activities of the ambassador of Chernomyrdin and all Russian representatives in Ukraine are aimed at creating optimal conditions for the progressive development of bilateral ties corresponding to the genuine indigenous interests of the peoples of Russia and Ukraine," the Russian Foreign Ministry noted. Chernomyrdin himself calmly reacted to the threat of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to declare his "person non grata." "They scared the woman with high -heeled shoes. It does not bother me, I am not in that rank to scare me," he said. The ambassador does not believe that his actions and statements somehow could harm the Ukrainian state.
