The creators of special effects for the "Lord of the Rings" presented a legless woman's tail of a mermaid

The New Zealand company, which made special effects for the blockbuster "Lord of the Rings", gave a legless woman a unique prosthesis in the form of a tail of a mermaid. A resident of the city of Auckland is already learning to swim using an unusual device and intends to use it while participating in the triathlon.

Nadia Wessi is a disabled person from birth, her legs never went and were amputated by the age of 16. Now she is already over forty, in ordinary life a woman uses prostheses, says The Daily Telegraph newspaper.

According to Wessie, the idea of ​​a tail came to her when an unfamiliar boy asked her why she had no legs. Remembering the fairy tale "The Little Mermaid", she explained that she was a mermaid, and therefore was deprived of her legs. Later, with the idea of ​​turning into a mermaid, she turned to Weta Workshop, which created visual special effects for many famous films, for which the Oscar was awarded five times.

To the surprise of women, eminent experts willingly responded to her offer and soon made a mermaid tail of plastic and fabric, which is usually used for wetsuits. At the end of the tail is a specially designed artificial fin.

Creating a prosthesis, experts took into account the individual characteristics of the body of Nadi Vessey, but it admits that it is still difficult to master swimming with the tail: you have to get used to unusual movements. Wessi has been swimming from the age of seven, when she was amputated the first leg. In the future, she even participated in competitions.

Now the woman intends to use the tail of the mermaid while participating in the triathlon to overcome the water part of the distance. “I thought it was better to use this thing not like a toy, but to go further,” she explains.

WETA WORKSHOP Director Richart Taylor praised the Wessie for patience - the creators did not always manage to immediately fulfill the necessary requirements. However, as a result, the authors were very pleased with their creation. Lee Williams costumer emphasizes that the company sought to create a convenient and beautiful thing at the same time, and also sought to make the tail look as believable as possible.
