Tursunov brought Russia to the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup

The Russian national team outplayed the Romanian team in the 1/8 finals of the Davis Cup in Sibiu and went to the quarterfinals of the tournament. The victorious point was brought to our team by Dmitry Tursunov, having won a strong -willed victory over the leader of the Romanian national team Viktor Hanescu - 4: 6, 5: 7, 6: 3, 6: 4, 6: 2. The match lasted three hours and 46 minutes.

The beginning of the match against the leader of the Romanian team did not set Dmitry. He, trying to act aggressively, was a lot of mistaken, sometimes in the simplest situations. But this is not new for Tursunov: in this style he plays almost always, and sometimes he has a game, and then he gets all the balls, and sometimes - on the contrary. Hanescu acted reliably, played under the back line, which often found the opponent by surprise.

After two played parties, Russian fans have practically no hope left, since in Tursunov’s game there was not the slightest hint that the move of the meeting was possible. However, this fracture nevertheless occurred, and largely thanks to Hanescu. The Russian took the third party, and it became more and more noticeable that his opponent stops holding the pace and increasingly tries to quickly complete the draw. The Hanescu was mistaken, on the contrary, Tursunov entered the rhythm and continued to increase the advantage. As a result, after the winnings of the fourth party in the success of Tursunov, he probably did not doubt, probably, Hanescu himself, who at the very beginning of the decisive set gave his feed, and then once again allowed the opponent to make a break.

Tursunov made 84 unmuffy errors against 38 at Hanescu. But on his account there are almost twice as many actively won balls - 111: 57. An important factor in the Russian game was the presentation. At the first presentation, he won 78% of the balls, and on the second - 47%. In addition, he served 17 Aits.

After this match, the score was 3: 1 in favor of the Russians who guaranteed the exit to the quarterfinals of the Davis Cup for the tenth time over the past 11 years, RIA Novosti recalls.
