The new terrible social phenomenon is strengthened in Turkey: these are the so -called "suicides of honor", reports inopressa.ru with reference to The Independent .

The so -called "murders of honor" reached record marks, about 200 per year, according to official statistics, which is equal to half of all murders in the country. Young women are killed by members of their own families for misconduct, with which they "dishonored" their family, for example, for refusing to marry the proposed groom, and sometimes even an indecent SMS.

In 2005, a law was adopted on the introduction of a life imprisonment for "killing honor", and now very often parents demand that their daughters commit suicide. And indeed: the statistics of suicide cases are growing rapidly.
