Anastasia Volochkova was denied registration as a candidate in the mayoral elections of Sochi, Interfax reports with reference to the ballerina.

According to her, the reason for the refusal was that she did not indicate her birthday on the bank check for the payment of the election deposit. Volochkova called this reason ridiculous and promised to appeal the election commission’s decision in court.

The ballerina believes that the refusal to register her as a candidate indicates that “her figure is competitive with some other candidates.”

In particular, she mentioned the chairman of the all-Russian public movement “Against Crime and Lawlessness” Dmitry Berdnikov, who is also a contender for the post of mayor.

Previously, he stated that he would challenge Volochkova’s right to participate in the elections in court, since, in his opinion, she violated the procedure for submitting documents. In particular, Berdnikov was unhappy that the ballerina’s security did not allow him into the election commission building, where he came to submit documents on the same day as Volochkova.

Volochkova submitted documents to the city election commission on March 26, the last day for submitting applications. She promised to build “the best theater in the world” in Sochi and solve the city’s problems with energy supply, transport and sewerage flowing into the sea.

For the sake of the elections, she was ready to partially give up concerts and move to Sochi. At the same time, she emphasized that she does not need PR, since she is already well known in Russia and in the world.

Elections in Sochi will be held on April 26. Six people are registered as candidates for this post: businessman Alexander Lebedev , leader of the Solidarity movement Boris Nemtsov , businessman Pavel Emelianenko, businessman Vladimir Trukhanovsky, first secretary of the Sochi branch of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation Yuri Dzagania and head of the city branch of the A Just Russia party Viktor Kurpitko.

Earlier, other people also announced their desire to run for the post of head of the capital of the 2014 Olympics, but they have not yet completed the registration procedure.
