According to the company - the manufacturer of Symantec antivirus programs, the first place remains for the United States, Turkey occupies the third place, writes the newspaper "RBC Daily" on Wednesday.
Last year, Russia for the first time took first place in the number of spam emanating from the networks of the same country in the region of Eastern Europe and the Middle East, and the second place in the world. The share of spam emanating from Russia in 2008 amounted to 13% of the total spam in the EMEA region and 6% in the world.
"Over the past year, Symantec observed the total growth in the level of spam on the Internet by 192%, from 119.6 billion messages in 2007 to 349.6 billion in 2008," the report of the antivirus company says.
Symantec also note changes in the structure of illegal advertising content. The main category was spam related to the Internet (24%), followed by spam related to commercial products (19%). The share of financial spam was reduced from 21 to 13% largely due to the ongoing decrease in the level of exchange operations.
