Konami has refused to act as a publisher of the tactical shooter Six Days in Fallujah, which is being developed by Atomic Games, Eurogamer reports. The reason for this was the negative reaction from veterans, as well as various anti-war organizations, which appeared shortly after the official announcement of the game.

Some British and US military personnel, as well as parents of soldiers killed in Iraq, condemned Six Days in Fallujah, calling the game insensitive. In their opinion, too little time has passed since the fighting in Fallujah to create an entertainment project based on them.

Some spoke out in support of the game. These include writer and former soldier Andy McNab. He noted that Six Days in Fallujah is a logical development of the story that gamers constantly hear about in the news. McNab also recalled that realistic military-themed games (for example, America's Army) have been produced for quite some time.

In an interview with Asahi Shimbun, Konami representatives noted that the company carefully studied the reaction of US residents that arose after the announcement of Six Days in Fallujah. The decision to abandon this project was made a few days ago. There is currently no word on whether Atomic Games plans to seek a new publisher.

The game Six Days in Fallujah is a third-person shooter in which gamers will play on the side of the American Marines. The project was based on the second military operation in Fallujah, which was codenamed Phantom Fury. It started in November 2004.

Representatives of Atomic Games noted that they plan to create a very realistic game, recreating urban battles as accurately as possible. Especially for this purpose, soldiers who took part in the assault on Fallujah were involved in the development of the project. The game was planned to be released in 2010 on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC.
