Last Sunday, a rally was held in Gelendzhik demanding the release of the director of the Gelendzhik Human Rights Center, Vladimir Ivanov, who has been in jail for almost two months. On April 28, Ivanov tried to take a picture of Vladimir Krasnopeev, chairman of the city court, for the Imeyu Pravo newspaper, which he founded, which led to his arrest. Sergei Mitrokhin, leader of the Yabloko party, arrived at the rally in support of the human rights activist.

“There is no ban on photography in Russia. I consider what happened to be complete lawlessness and arbitrariness,” Mitrokhin said in his speech.

Irina Matyash, an activist of the Gelendzhik Human Rights Center, told Novaya Gazeta that on April 28 near the city court, the chairman of the court, Krasnopeev, got out of the car and saw that he was being photographed.

“Krasnopeev began to knock the camera out of Ivanov’s hands, called the bailiff. On the same day, Ivanov wrote to the prosecutor's office a statement that the judge was trying to take away the camera. The next day, the investigator Dremlyuga asked Ivanov to come for a coupon notification of the acceptance of the application. However, Ivanov was detained in the office.”

In the detention protocol, Vladimir indicated that he was detained and searched without a lawyer. The decision to bring Ivanov as a defendant states that Ivanov “grabbed V. A. Krasnopeev by the hands and lifted him up.” It is further written that the bailiff Malinov took Ivanov to the escort room, where Ivanov insulted the judge with foul language.

The human rights activist was charged under two criminal articles - "use of non-dangerous violence against a representative of the authorities" and "insulting the authorities", part 1 of article 318 and article 319, respectively.

Now Vladimir Ivanov is waiting for a psychiatric examination in Krasnodar. Therefore, at the rally there was also talk of punitive psychiatry. At the moment, the organizer of the rally, Sergei Buldakov, is being charged with an administrative offense, although he claims that the notification of the rally was submitted to the authorities within the time limits established by law.
