The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter ( MRO ) probe, located in the near -Marcian orbit since 2006, suddenly rebooted his computer and moved into safe operation. This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the reactive traffic laboratory ( JPL ) NASA.
"The spontaneous reboot resembles a similar event that happened on February 23. The engineers believe that the most likely reason for this is the cosmic rays that bombard electronics," the message said. The reboot occurred on Thursday, at 5.10 Moscow time. This is the sixth case since the launch of the spacecraft in August 2005, when it moved to a safe regime.
"The device transmits data on its condition, there is power, the batteries are completely charged. The specialists team carefully tries to return the orbital probe to normal operation," says project manager Jim Erickson. According to him, the probability of the probe will be restored next week.
