The General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation announced the rehabilitation of members of the royal family who were executed in 1918 in Perm and Alapaevsk. Previously, a corresponding statement was sent to the department by representatives of Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna Romanova, who achieved the rehabilitation of Nicholas II and members of his family.

According to the Prosecutor General's Office, the department has decided to rehabilitate members of the Romanov royal family - Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich (Nicholas II's brother), Grand Duchess Elizabeth Feodorovna (wife of Uncle Nicholas II), Grand Duke Sergei Mikhailovich (grandson of Nicholas I), as well as Princes John , Konstantin and Igor Konstantinovich (great-grandsons of Nicholas I).

Mikhail Alexandrovich was exiled to Perm in 1918, in the vicinity of which he was shot on June 13, 1918. The remaining rehabilitated members of the royal family were shot on July 18, 1918 and thrown into a mine in Alapaevsk.

As the investigation found, an analysis of archival materials suggests that members of the Romanov dynasty, as well as several other people, were subjected to repression without being charged, which is the basis for rehabilitation.

In addition to six representatives of the House of Romanov, the wife of Ivan Konstantinovich Romanov Elena Petrovna, Vladimir Pavlovich Paley, Varvara Yakovleva, Ekaterina Petrovna Yanysheva, Fyodor Semenovich (Mikhailovich) Remez, Ivan Kalin, a certain Krukovsky, Doctor Gelmerson, as well as the secretary of Mikhail Alexandrovich Romanov were also subjected to rehabilitation. , British citizen Nikolai Nikolaevich Johnson.

Let us remember that during the process of rehabilitation of Nicholas II and members of his family, the Prosecutor General’s Office argued that the execution of the royal family was a criminal, not a political crime, so they could not be rehabilitated. The rehabilitation of the last Russian emperor was achieved by Grand Duchess Maria Vladimirovna in October 2008. After this, she decided to take up the rehabilitation of members of the imperial family as well. As a result, in March 2009, the Grand Duchess’s representative submitted a corresponding request to the Prosecutor General’s Office.
