Popular British retro-soul singer Amy Winehouse has divorced her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, BBC News reported on Thursday, July 16. According to reports, the divorce procedure took only a few minutes.

Fielder-Civil filed for divorce in mid-January 2009, arguing that his wife had cheated on him. At the same time, it became known that the winner of five Grammy statuettes, Winehouse, was vacationing on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia. There she spent time with a new friend, little-known actor Josh Bowman.

Answering questions from journalists about her relationship with her legal husband, Winehouse emphasized that she preferred not to think at all about the fact that she was once married to Fielder-Civil. “Blake was exactly the same as me. We used drugs together. And when I’m next to Josh, I don’t need any stimulants,” Winehouse noted. Despite the fact that the artist actually stopped taking illegal drugs in the winter, she has still not been able to cope with her alcohol addiction.

Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil met in a London pub in 2005. Two years later the couple decided to get married. The wedding ceremony, which was attended only by the closest friends of the singer and her chosen one, took place in May 2007 in Miami.

Throughout their two-year marriage, Winehouse and Fielder-Civil did not hide the fact that they both suffered from alcohol and drug addiction. The singer's father, Mitch Winehouse, has repeatedly stated that it is her husband who is the cause of all sorts of problems in her daughter's life.

BBC News does not provide comments from the divorced spouses themselves. It is also not yet known how the singer’s parents reacted to the news of their daughter’s divorce from Fielder-Civil.
