In South Africa, they came up with the equipment of ATMs with gas cans

One of the banks in the South African city of Cape Town, equipped his payment terminals with a new "tough" protection system from vandals and robbers. If attackers are detected, the system sprinkles the contents of the pepper spray, reports Soft.mail.ru.

An alarm is triggered in cases where the surveillance camera installed above the ATM records an attempt to hack the device - for example, installing a data interceptor ("Skimmer") or an explosive device.

Additional security measures taken by the ABSA Bank management cannot be called excessive precautions. Last year, several ATMs belonging to one of the largest financial institutions in the country were attacked.

Currently, 11 terminals are equipped with caustic gas containers installed on the streets of the largest city in the Republic of South African.

Unfortunately, the developers of the system did not take care of the implementation of the mechanisms of "protection from the fool", which led to rather sad consequences. Last weekend, the ATM impressed the gaze with a brigade of technicians who carried out a planned technical inspection of the terminal, as well as several clients who accidentally turned out to be nearby.

As a result of the incident, three victims had to seek medical help, reports the website of Sophos.
