Deputy Prime Minister Ivanov announced the introduction of barracks duties on imported GPS navigators

The Russian government considers the proposal for the introduction of duties on GPS navigators in the amount of at least 25%, said Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Ivanov on Friday.

“The proposal to re -turn all duties on components, an elemental base, while a sufficiently sharp increase in customs duties on GPS navigators,” Ivanov quoted Interfax as saying.

Measures to stimulate the production of domestic navigators of the GLONASS system are necessary so that they can compete with the foreign receivers of the GPS, Ivanov explained the feasibility of a decision on the introduction of, in fact, executive duties.

According to him, today the Russian market is completely open to GPS, since foreign navigators are not taxed. If Russia today entered the territory of foreign states, for example, the United States or Europe, with the navigators of the GLONASS system, then such products would probably be taxed, the Deputy Prime Minister told his opinion.

He clarified that it is proposed not to tax navigators working from the signals of two systems - the American GPS and the Russian GLONASS. "GLONASS/GPS navigators will not be taxed with customs duties," said Sergey Ivanov.

We add that so far no foreign manufacturer navigators receiving GLONASS satellite signals do. At least in the Russian market, such devices have not yet been found on sale. We also note that devices based on the GPS system of foreign production are taxed 5 percent tax, contrary to the opinion of Mr. Ivanov.

In general, Ivanov announced another truly revolutionary idea on Friday - he announced the need to legitimize data on violations of traffic rules recorded using the GLONASS satellite system.

"It is necessary to make information received using GLONASS, normatively recognized," he said on Friday during the inspection of the regional space services center in Kazan.

Ivanov reported that in Tatarstan it was possible to use GLONASS to track violations of the speed regime, to receive data on an accident, but the information received cannot be used by law enforcement agencies, since there is no regulatory framework.

The Deputy Prime Minister recalled that from July 1, 2008, the data obtained using video and photographs were legalized, and now it "has the need to track the situation on the satellite." “We must legalize it,” he emphasized.

It is worth noting that Ivanov did not specify when such an innovation can be introduced and how he will personally contribute to him.

For the first time, Russian senators proposed to introduce protectionist measures against the domestic GLONASS system two weeks ago.

One of the participants in the discussion, which was called the "application of the GLONASS system in the economy of the Russian Federation", suggested resurrecting duties on some components and plastics used for the production of consumer electronic devices. It was, in particular, about the impossibility of purchasing buildings in Russia and nutrition elements for navigators. The discussion also offered to equip cars with hybrid navigation modules - GLONASS/GPS.

Now the cost of GLONASS receivers exceeds the price of the corresponding solutions to the American satellite system GPS by ten times. Also, GPS devices provide less power consumption, have much more modest dimensions and better sensitivity to satellite signals.
