American F-15E fighter-bomber crashes in Afghanistan

On Saturday, an American F-15E Strike Eagle fighter-bomber crashed in eastern Afghanistan under unclear circumstances, the Associated Press reported, citing a US Army spokesman.

As a result of the crash, which occurred at 02.45 Moscow time, both pilots of the car died. The exact crash site is not yet known.

According to the crew of the aircraft escorting the downed fighter-bomber, the F-15E did not crash as a result of shelling.

The agency also notes that over the past few years, there have been no accidents involving fighter jets in Afghanistan, since local militants do not have the appropriate weapons.

In November 2007, after the crash of an F-15 fighter jet in Missouri, the flights of these aircraft were temporarily suspended. During the inspection of the machines, nine fighters revealed design flaws.

After completion of the test, the F-15E modification aircraft, which are mainly used in Iraq and Afghanistan, were the first to be allowed to fly.
