State Duma deputies in the media

“Politicians Through the Eyes of the Media,” a joint project of “Vremya Novostei” and the “Medialogia” company, are ratings of political figures who are most actively discussed in the federal press and on central TV channels.

“Politicians Through the Eyes of the Media” are published weekly: over the course of a month, you can sequentially familiarize yourself with the ratings of governors of the Russian Federation, deputies of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, ministers of the Russian Federation and heads of foreign states. The ratings are also published on the publication's website - www.vremya.ru.

The ratings reflect both the total number of publications per month and the level of information favored by the media in relation to each political person. The Information Favorability Index (IFI) is calculated based on the nature of references to a person (positive, negative, neutral), the significance of the message and the influence of the media.

During the next reporting period, Boris Gryzlov's leadership was recorded in two media ratings. In early August, the speaker of the State Duma, head of the supreme council of the United Russia party, took part in a discussion with the first deputy head of the presidential administration, Vladislav Surkov, of the list of candidates for governor of the Sverdlovsk region. Later, at the Sochi meeting of the Russian President with the leaders of the Duma factions, Mr. Gryzlov proposed several options for increasing budget revenues and increasing the efficiency of expenditures.

Vladimir Zhirinovsky rose to second place in the ranking according to the information favorability index. At the above-mentioned meeting of parliamentarians with Dmitry Medvedev, the president’s support was received by the LDPR leader’s proposal to get out of the crisis - to focus exclusively on megaprojects such as the construction of the Trans-Siberian Highway. Earlier, at the Moscow conference of the LDPR, Mr. Zhirinovsky headed the top three in the approved list of party candidates for deputies of the Moscow City Duma. At the same time, the media also reported that Mr. Zhirinovsky headed the party’s electoral list in the Republic of Mari El.

Gennady Zyuganov's position in two media ratings has deteriorated slightly; the communist leader ranks third in terms of information and fourth place in terms of mention. Gennady Andreevich’s media indicators were formed primarily based on the results of the same meeting of the leaders of the Duma factions with Dmitry Medvedev. Comrade Zyuganov drew the president’s attention to the need for immediate government purchases of grain. The Moscow campaign of support for South Ossetia on the anniversary of hostilities in the republic also contributed to improving the media image of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation and its leader.

Noteworthy is the absence of deputy Anatoly Aksakov, who took third place in the quantitative rating, from the top 100 in the IIB. To support the economy, the head of the Association of Regional Banks called for a sharp devaluation of the ruble, for which he will be recalled from the National Banking Council in the near future.
