Cleveland Metroparks Zoo will invest $ 25 million in the construction of environmentally friendly housing for three elephants. The houses will be commissioned in 2011, writes Prian.ru .

The "green" components of the project include the re -use of water for an elephant pool, which will reduce the annual water consumption from 26 million to 7.5 million gallons, as well as the processing of waste of elephant life. In addition, the construction of dwellings uses restored materials.

Similar "green" animal projects are implemented throughout the country, but so far they have been mainly intended for small birds and animals. The largest animals that use the services of environmentally friendly construction were still lions living in the zoo of the New York Bronx.
