American bloggers began a public campaign on a spontaneous translation of an article about Russia, which was published in the American version of the GQ magazine, but was removed from the Russian version of the publication.
The article by Scott Anderson “Vladimir Putin-a dark ascent to power” is devoted to the investigation of terrorist acts in Russia in the late 90s and was based on an interview with a former employee of the Russian special services Mikhail Trepashkin.

According to the instructions of the Birence, the article also could not be published on the journal’s website, as well as send copies of GQ to Russia or show it to Russian officials or journalists. In addition to this, a reprint of the article in any editions of media holding abroad or any advertisement for this material in the magazine itself was strictly prohibited.
About the circumstances of the scandal and about the circular of Birenz, the head of the Civil Freedom Fund Alexander Goldfarb also told Ekhu Moscow . "The scandal is that the leadership of the Conde Nast publishing house at the very last moment, after the magazine went to the shelves, sent the circular to all employees that it (this article) should not be distributed in Russia. And it can not be given an interview in the press and everything else, and this is associated with pressure, which is a great journal-gaze-gaze The publishing house, apparently, was provided in Moscow, in fact, the essence of the scan, because this topic was picked up by news agencies, now there is a big discussion, where, in particular, it is said that any ban causes the effect of the desired one, and is an advertisement for a forbidden article, ”said Goldfarb.
The official representative of Conde NAST Marie Perl refused to comment. She only stated that the company "takes into account the laws and problems of those countries in which the magazines of the publishing house are published."
