Mikhail Afanasyev, editor of the Khakass online publication New Focus, was attacked on the morning of September 9. As Gazeta.Ru reports from the journalist’s own words, he was attacked by two unknown men in the yard not far from his house and hit on the head. He managed to escape, he has not yet gone to the hospital, and is currently in the police department.
After the accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power station, Afanasiev disseminated information that at the hydroelectric power station, “on the flooded turbine hall,” “the knocking of people can be heard,” which divers cannot reach. A criminal case was opened against Afanasyev, who claimed that not everything possible was being done at the hydroelectric power station to save people, he was accused of slandering the head of the Khakass Ministry of Emergency Situations, Andrei Firsov, and the director of the hydroelectric power station, Nikolai Nevolko. The investigation was later closed. Shortly before the attack, Afanasiev traveled to Moscow, he wrote about this on his blog, but promised to tell more about the trip on September 9.
