The police tried to stop the action of the defenders of the Khimki forest

Law enforcement officers tried to stop the action of the defenders of the Khimkinsky forest, which takes place on Sunday at the 52nd km of the Rostov-Don highway, the press station of the Russian Lawyers Association Julia Huseynova told the Echo of Moscow radio station.

According to her, the action participants were going to land the trees, but the police officers considered these actions illegal.

Residents of the Khimki Moscow Region are currently holding the “Plant Forest” campaign against the construction of the Moscow -St. Petersburg highway. The event is also attended by employees of the Greenpeace of Russia and the World Wildlife Fund.

Earlier it was reported that the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation Yuri Trutnev promised to petition the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Agriculture to change the project of the Moscow-Petersburg highway in order to save the forest park in Khimki.

"The Ministry of Natural Resources of Russia will turn to the Ministry of Transport of Russia and the Ministry of Agriculture of Russia with a request to revise the project for the placement of the Moscow-Sank-Petersburg high-speed highway to preserve the Khimkinsky Forest Park (Moscow Region)," the press service of the Ministry of Natural Resources reports.

According to the report, Trutnev stated this on Friday at a meeting with ecologists and defenders of the Khimki forest as part of communication with citizens. Ecologists and human rights activists opposed the laying of the road through the Khimkinsky forest, protests were repeatedly held, one of the initiators of which was the editor -in -chief of the Khimkinskaya Pravda newspaper Mikhail Beketov.

On November 13, 2008, unknown people brutally beat Beketov. At the Sklifosovsky Institute, he was done by several operations, the shin and fingers were amputated, and also removed the fragments of the skull from the brain tissue and cut off the trachea. Beketov’s colleagues and friends associate this attack with his human rights activities.

On the fact of causing grievous bodily harm, a criminal case was instituted, the investigation of which the prosecutor general of the Russian Federation Yuri Chaika took on special control. At the same time, there are no progress in this investigation.
